The irrigation water rights for Cottonwood Reservoir are an asset and resource of the Ouray Park Irrigation Company and its stockholders.

Access: At the town of Gusher on State Highway 40, turn North and go five miles to
Bullock Reservoir. Follow the road on the South side of Bullock one mile to
Cottonwood Reservoir.
Fishing: Carp, Black Bullhead, Green Sunfish, Smallmouth, Tiger Musky, White Suckers
Likely Catch: Tiger Muskellunge
Possible Catch: Smallmouth Bass

Facilities: There is a dirt boat access and primitive camping is allowed. There are no
restrooms, campgrounds, or water. No handicap access.

Cotonwood Reservoir was recently stock by the DWR with a fresh batch of mature Smallmouth Bass, as well as young Tiger Muskies. According to DWR, in a few years, both will provide excellent fishing.
The climate is classified as a mid-latitude steppe (mid-latitude dry), with boreal dry scrub biozone. The soil in the area is high in kastanozems, solonetz (ks), calcareous soils rich in organic matter, brown color, typical of semiarid climates containing grasses.
